SSAIB certificate

by Mark Rowe

SSAIB, the UK fire, security and telecare certification body, has awarded a certificate to the latest company applying under its new BAFE SP205 UKAS-accredited scheme. A presentation to Michael Clifford, MD of Beacon Fire Safety, was held recently at the FIA’s Middlesex headquarters, attended by SSAIB consultant Geoff Rendall.

SSAIB’s recently introduced SP205 scheme enables anyone who’s required by law to carry out a fire risk assessment of a premises, and who employs a specialist third party company to provide this, to show that they’ve taken the necessary reasonable steps to comply with their legal requirements under fire safety legislation.

Beacon Fire Safety is the consultancy side of West Sussex based MK Fire Training Ltd, offering a range of fire risk assessments and fire safety advice through its experienced, qualified and CRB-cleared assessors. Beacon Fire Safety MD Michael Clifford says: “We operate a nationwide service and have a number of consultants, all of whom are members of the Institution of Fire Engineers. Gaining SP205 certification will assist us in demonstrating to our existing and potential clients that we are a competent provider of fire risk assessments and that we are serious in proving this commitment to them.”

Besides those responsible for carrying out fire risk assessments, SSAIB’s independent third party certification service can also benefit fire risk assessment providers, who can use their SSAIB accreditation to attract end user customers.

Founded in 1994 the SSAIB is based at new offices in Tyne and Wear. In addition to its product schemes, SSAIB offers a range of management systems certification schemes, including ISO 9001 quality management systems certification and ISO 14001 environmental management systems certification. Over 1500 companies are now on the SSAIB’s register. Visit www.ssaib.org
