The Prisma retail chain in Finland has upgraded its video surveillance to tackle shrink and improve system usability at four of its hypermarkets. The retailer opted for a hybrid solution integrating many third-party products.
Prisma’s existing surveillance system had been expanded and added to over the years, and hence had more than 150 third-party analogue cameras covering four sites – the Prismas in Vaasa, Kouvola, Tripla, and Kristiine. Operating the system had become a challenge, given the significant latency affecting camera control. The retailer did not have a ‘single pane of glass’ overview of its system or sites. Image quality and speed of the third-party video wall in the central control room were also issues that hampered their security staff’s ability to track suspected thieves.
With the installer, Safe IT, Prisma opted for IDIS Solution Suite (ISS) video management software (VMS). ISS comes with live video streaming, management, and administration tools and the ability to integrate third-party cameras from a single user interface. Safe IT used an analogue and IP mix-and-match approach of new IDIS cameras while retaining other companies’ network video recorders (NVRs) and legacy models. The cameras were connected using a third-party encoder. An IDIS video wall was deployed to provide live and centralised monitoring, enabling identification, tracking and a response to potential threats as operators used IDIS Smart UX Controls.
Jari-Pekka Repo Security Manager, Prisma Tripla said: “The IDIS video solution has provided Prisma with greatly strengthened and improved efficiency of our security operations, ensuring an enhanced and proactive user experience for system operators. Prisma is delighted with the high-performance of the IDIS solution, and we are now looking to roll the technology out to more stores in 2023.”
Harry Kim, Director of the IDIS EMEA Business Development Team added: “The flexibility and scalability of IDIS Solution Suite has allowed Prisma to truly future-proof their surveillance operations as they embark on a phased upgrade at stores across the Nordics.”
