ABI seminar

by Mark Rowe

The Association of British Investigators (ABI) next seminar runs in London on Friday, September 23, at the Union Jack Club beside Waterloo station. Attenders can get an update on private investigation training and other issues.

The Private Security Authority (PSA) chief executive Paul Scallan, pictured, will discuss the licensing of private sector investigators as recently introduced in the Republic of Ireland. Briefly, the PSA is the statutory body with responsibility for licensing and regulating the private security industry in the Republic; the equivalent of the SIA in the UK.

Later, the former South Wales Police man now trainer and consultant Vince Donovan will provide insight into managing conflict and personal safety.

Organisers are changing the format of the autumn seminar by introducing choice for delegates. A series of workshops will be offered, and repeated three times over the day. Delegates will able to select which three workshops they prefer to attend and the order they attend. The options are:

Peter Jenkins will cover ‘The continuity of evidence in respect of digital photographs’. He’s a trainer of surveillance tradecraft and the author of several books, most recently Covert Imagery Photography & Video – visit www.covert-imagery.co.uk. His foot surveillance in London course is featured in the July 2016 print issue of Professional Security magazine.

Thomas Dolby from GBG will show the smarter use of data, its interrogation and incorporation of social links with intelligent data, to identify more connections between a person and a phone number, email, property and groups. He will be using GBG’s Connexus service including their latest tracing and investigation tool ‘OSINT’.

A workshop by Laurianne Enos will cover how to work with an interpreter during an interview.

And Michael Morgan of Cardiff Web Development Ltd will present the software options for investigators and how to get the best out of them.

The ABI Academy will offer guidance through how to achieve the industry standard qualification and advice about continuing professional development (CPD).
