The physical security product manufacturer ASSA ABLOY is hosting a Secured by Design (SBD) roadshow in September, bringing Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) to Yale, Yale Door and Window Solutions, Mila, ABLOY, Mul-T-Lock, and UNION brands.
Typically DOCOs work with architects, developers, and local authority planners to encourage crime prevention at the planning phases of new constructions, and refurbishments. That may include products adhering to standards such as PAS 24, which guarantees that doors and windows can withstand various methods of attack; TS007, which testifies that cylinders will provide maximum protection against drilling, picking, and snapping; and TS008, which proves that letterplates will prevent intruders from gaining access to the property or retrieving keys and other items.
With the rise of smart homes, Secure Connected Devices (SCDs) have also become an important part of crime prevention, the manufacturer adds. Designed to be integrated into the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, they enable property owners to monitor and manage their security systems remotely, providing an added layer of protection and convenience.
Indicative tests are a component of Secured by Design. They subject products to conditions, simulating attack methods to evaluate their performance โ and therefore enabling property owners to feel confident that their products will withstand substantial force and manipulation.
Each brand will give product presentations on their Secured by Design-approved products, from TS007 3-star cylinders to smart home devices. DOCOs will receive a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificate that they can then use towards their CPD hours.
The roadshow will also include tours of the ASSA ABLOY sites at Willenhall, Cheltenham, Daventry, and Carlisle, with the Cumbria site including a demonstration of how it has reduced the plastic used in its outbound packaging by 90 per cent in the last 12 months.
Hazel Goss MBE, Development Office at Secured by Design, says: โThe best way to prevent crime is through quality, cutting-edge design, and our DOCOs have a key role to play in this. Thatโs why weโre excited to be teaming up with ASSA ABLOY to spread awareness of their Secured by Design-approved products across the industry.โ
And Jo Rush, Marketing & Commercial Director, Residential at ASSA ABLOY, adds: โWeโre delighted to partner with Secured by Design for this roadshow. This is a fantastic opportunity for ASSA ABLOY brands to present our latest Secured by Design accredited products to the DOCOs and ultimately develop their confidence in our brand and products. The roadshow promises to be exciting, memorable, and highly interactive for all the DOCOs involved.โ
